How M&M candies Are Made

Red, brown, yellow, orange, green and blue chocolate pebbles filled with peanuts, almonds or peanut butter. Which of us doesn't recognize the description of the popular M&M? Generations of Americans have snacked away on the bite-sized candies since their debut 1940. But have you ever paused to wonder how M&M's are made? How they make them such a perfect shape? Whether the signature "m" is printed on or if the candies are sprayed with color while the "m" is a protected area? Find out below the entire manufacture process of this popular candy.

First, liquid chocolate is poured into molds to make the centers (for the peanut or almond filled variety, the chocolate is poured over the nut). Before they are allowed to harden, the candies are tumbled about to ensure a perfectly smooth rounds.

Then the hardened chocolates are carried to to the coating area for a process called "panning". During panning, the chocolates are rotated in large cylinders while being sprayed with a candy syrup made of sugar and corn syrup. Several coatings ensure a uniform coating on each piece. A final coating of colored syrup is applied.

Next, several different colored batches are combined and trays of the candies transported via conveyor belt to the "m" stamping machine. The trays are specially made with indentations into which each candy fits snugly. The trays pass under the rubber etch rollers of this machine which gently imprints the letter without cracking the candy shell.

Finally, the candies are bagged, heat sealed and packed into cases, ready to shipped to retailers worldwide.

So there you have it, the simple yet clever manufacture process of M&M's, candies that have been famous around the world for decades.

Vitamin D Supplements Fight Major Diseases

Studies have shown that people with many of today's most serious and worrying diseases can be helped with a daily dose of a powerful disease fighting vitamin. The biggest source of this nutrient costs nothing, is available to everyone, will never get used up, and is so easy to get that all you have to do is step outside. What is it? The vitamin D in sunshine! Yes, it's true, D has been proven to have what it takes to fight cancer, rickets, high blood pressure, depression, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Below are the results of studies done on four of the most serious diseases.

Cancer

Two epidemiologists, Frank and Cedric Garland, were the first to suspect a link between regional cancer rates and the weather. They conducted a 1980 study of colon cancer rates in the United States. What they found shocked them: in the cloudy Northeast rates were twice as high as in the namesake sunshiny Sunbelt areas. Further medical research by the National Cancer Institute has proven that there is indeed a link. You see, when we are exposed to sunshine, the ultraviolet rays of the sun are absorbed by a D linked hormone in our skin. This hormone carries the raw vitamin D to our organs, where it is refined into a powerful disease fighting hormone called calcitriol. The cells in our bodies use this hormone to regulate the growth of potential cancer cells. When our calcitriol levels are minimal, as they often are, the cell multiplication rates can spike, causing cancer.

Diabetes

FACT: During winter months, the sun is only out for a few hours during winter mornings in Finland. FACT: Finland has the highest rates of type 1 diabetes in the world. Do you see a connection? Finnish researchers did. So they tested a their theory of the link on infants and pregnant women. When the children were given regular doses of vitamin D they were found to be 80% less likely to develop diabetes later on. Since type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease, they believe that the calcitriol suppressed immune cells which may otherwise have destroyed insulin producing cells.

Hypertension

A study of 18 volunteers with high blood pressure was conducted to prove the link between vitamin D, or the lack thereof, and the illness. The participants were given UVB exposure for about six minutes, thrice weekly. A month and a half later, the vitamin D in their systems had doubled and their blood pressure had decreased dramatically; some had a normal blood pressure. Again it was found that calcitriol had controlled the quantities of blood vessel constricting enzymes. This vessel constriction is one of the leading causes of hypertension.

Osteoporosis

When vitamin D is missing from the delicate balance of calcium regulation in the body, the bones become unhealthy. A hormone, called parathyroid hormone, accumulates and starts to pull calcium from the bones. This causes the bone brittling disease so common in older women. A study of elderly people with hip fractures in the US and Britain found that 30 to 40% of them were seriously deficient of vitamin D. Daily dose of sunshine would reverse the problem extremely brittle bones to a safe level.

So How Can You Help Yourself?

As you are now aware of the importance of vitamin D to your health, you should take steps toward improving your supply. Probably like most people today you are deficient in the sunshine vitamin due to a busy lifestyle, sun-blocking atmospheric pollutants, avid sun block wearing and an indoor lifestyle. However, if you try a few of the simple ideas below, you will have no trouble getting the recommended 800-1000 IU's a day.

Remember the easiest way is to get out in the sun for 10 to 20 minutes. Don't wear sunscreen because even the weakest ones block out ALL vitamin absorption. Try these tips if you don't normally get outside much.

  • Eat breakfast by a window. It takes most people between 15 and 25 minutes to have a meal.

  • Go for a morning jog. The added benefits are exercise, fresh air, and a invigorating start to your day.

  • Take up an outdoor hobby or activity. Gardening or a sport can be a pleasant way to pass the time, and yard work is always necessary.

If there are few hours of sunshine available in your area you could try:
  • taking a D supplement
  • taking fish oils (flavored oils without the unpleasant taste or smell are available)
  • drinking D fortified milk or orange juice.
Hopefully, you will apply these tips to your life as soon as possible. Please don't take for granted your current health or the abundance of the disease fighting vitamin found so easily in nature--Vitamin D.

Kidney Stones Dissolve with an Herb Called Chanca Piedra

Chanca Piedra- "Stone breaker"?

In the United States alone, well over 1 million people suffer from kidney stones, a painful urinary irritation which is characterized by an accumulation of mineral deposits in the kidneys. Many of the afflicted resort to the medications and surgical procedures recommended by their doctors. They do not realize however, that there are safe, natural, alternatives to the options mentioned above which can completely relieve them of their discomfort. Such an alternative is the relatively little known herb called chanca piedra, which literally means 'stone breaker".

What is it?

Chanca piedra is a leafy herb that grows mainly in the rain forest regions, such as the Amazon. It has a long history of medical use with the indigenous people of the region. It has been used as an all round cure to treat various ailments such as kidney and bladder stones, diabetes, hypertension and viral infections. Typically, the entire herb was brewed into a tea of which one to three cups were had daily.

Is it effective?

A 1999 clinical study of rats found that the extract of this Brazilian herb had a potent inhibitory effect on the formation of kidney stones in the animals. In 2002, another study of two groups of rats further proved the amazing effects of this herb. Scientists seeded the bladders of all the animals with calcium oxalate crystals, from which most kidney stones form, and fed one group chanca piedra extract mixed with their water and the other plain water. It was found that the first group did extremely well in the expulsion of the stones and experienced far less pain than the other group. In fact the researches reported, chanca piedra "strongly inhibited the growth of stones" and "greatly reduced the number of stone satellites" found. From this, researchers concluded that chanca piedra "facilitates the expulsion of kidney and bladder stones". In 1990, it was reported that German doctor Wolfram Wiemann treated 100 patients for kidney stones with this potent herb. Dr Wiemann reported that 94% of his patients' pain was quickly eliminated and their stones dissolved and passed in 7-14 days.

How does it work?

Chanca piedra has concentrated doses of muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals. It also has chemicals that facilitate the erosion of kidney stones. These properties work together with the spasm reducing effect of the herb to relieve the discomfort caused. The smaller stones can then be passed through the relaxed muscles of the urinary tract without pain. This herb has been proven to be completely safe and also supports the general well being of the liver and urinary system.

Chanca piedra is available today in capsules form from several companies. It is an excellent choice over traditional medical treatments for this ailment as there are no harmful side effects as is the case with all pharmaceuticals. In fact, all the "side effects" are good ones such as liver support, kidney support, anti viral properties, and overall promotion of well being. There is no post-surgical trauma. And it's a completely safe remedy because it's all natural. So don't opt for medications or surgery. Instead, embrace the amazing properties of nature's cure for kidney stones- the stone breaker.

Make People Laugh at Your Jokes- Proffesional Method

Telling a joke effectively and getting laugh isn't easy. It takes practice, skill, and some level of tact. To some some people it comes naturally, while others need some fine tuning. Below, the tactics used by professional comedians have been broken down into simple, easy-to-follow details for those who want to brush up on their joke delivery skills.

First Essentials

Let's start at the very beginning with the understanding of the anatomy of a joke. There are two parts: the first is the background, which gives the information necessary to appreciate the punch line. The second is the punch line, which is the last line of a joke and reveals the humor led up to in the first part. Either without the other isn't funny.

Selecting an Appropriate Joke

When deciding what joke to tell, consider your audience. You want to pick a joke that:

  • your audience will understand (telling a joke about politics to six year olds will get you nowhere)
  • won't offend anyone in your audience (jokes based on religion, ethnicity, physical characteristics should be avoided for this reason and are generally in bad taste)
  • is appropriate to the situation (a rowdy joke shouldn't be told in an office, school, or other serious place)
  • you understand (if you don't know what you're talking about, there's a great chance you may end up embarrassing yourself)

How to Deliver a Joke

Step 1. Know your joke.

When you begin, it's important to remember that, if nothing else, your recitation should be smooth. Fumbling through the telling irrepairably damages the humorous tone of your story. Also remember that you should NEVER begin by announcing that the joke is going to be funny. This is VERY second rate and puts your audience in the uncomfortable position of being obliged to laugh whether or not they are amused.

Step 2. Deliver the Background Information.

Now you already know what you're going to say, so relax. You need to provide the background information clearly but briefly.

  • Speak clearly, authoritatively, and at a moderate pace.
  • Don't digress; only provide relevant information and make every word count.
  • Allow time for your audience to comprehend what you've said. (The slight tension this builds up is an invaluable addition to the humor in the end)
Step 3. Drop the Punch Line

Now you've got your hearers going. This is what you've really been leading up to. After hearing and understanding the build-up they're waiting to be bowled over by a brilliant conclusion. DON'T DISAPPOINT! To effectively deliver the punch line:

  • Intone your voice ever so slightly to signal the arrival of the conclusion. (Some comedians and humorists say that this may be unnecessary if you're REALLY good, but many jokes have lost much of their steam because the audience didn't realize the punch line had arrived.)

  • Don't rush. A measured, confident and controlled manner of speech is ideal.

Step 4. The Payoff

Enjoy the rewarding feeling of the laughter of an amused audience.
In rare cases, they may not laugh. But if you considered what kind of joke they would appreciate and delivered it clearly and briefly, then the problem probably isn't you. Sometimes people just aren't in the mood to laugh. This is where the little issue of tact comes in. With practice, you'll learn the fine points and before long you will be guaranteed a laugh every single time.

Final Hints, Tips and Tricks.

Emphasis can be added vocally by pausing briefly before or after important points and physically by slight movements of the body simultaneously with dramatic or important events in the joke.

Learn from the pros by watching and imitating comedians you enjoy.

Practice makes perfect, as with so many other skills.

If you have trouble remembering a joke word for word as you heard or read it, that's fine. Only, you must make sure that you remember enough of it to make your improvisation is seamless.

Keep your voice up at the end of a punch line to draw a bigger response from the audience. This works the same way a raised voice at the end of a question prompts a response from the hearer.

It's considered extremely amateur to chuckle your way through a joke. Enough said.

Don't kick yourself too hard if your first attempts fall short of your ideal expectations. As mentioned above practice is the key to success.

Lastly, be spontaneous. Once you have the guidelines above noted, FORGET ABOUT THEM. If you sound like you're getting this out of a book, then it will kill the natural fun of joking.

How to Peel A Pineapple- A Hassle Free Method

Pineapples are wonderful fruits that are loaded with calcium, potassium, fiber, and vitamin C. These nutritious fruits are the excellent treat on a hot day or can make a wonderful dessert. Sadly, many people miss out on the opportunity to eat fresh pineapple because hey are unable to peel one. This article explains how to peel and prepare this fruit so that you can take advantage of its benefits.

Begin by gathering your materials. You will need a pair of gloves, a sharp, ten inch serrated knife, a smaller round tipped knife such as those found in dinnerware, a cutting board, and a serving bowl. Once you have these, put on the gloves to protect you from the the thorns of the fruit. Hold the body of your pineapple in one hand and the head, or the green spiky top, in the other. Then, over a kitchen sink, firmly twist the head away from you and the body towards you until the head is wrung off. Discard it. For maximum efficiency during this procedure, always work over the kitchen sink, allowing all your trash to fall into the basin below.
Then, cut off a slice about half an inch thick from both the top and bottom of the fruit. Grip the pineapple around the middle with one hand, and use the serrated knife to remove its skin. You should peel from top to bottom using a downward, sawing motion. The peelings should be about one quarter to one half of an inch thick and expose the yellow flesh dotted with brown spots underneath. Peel one area, then revolve the pineapple in your hand and repeat on the next section. Do this for remaining areas. Your fruit should now appear mostly yellow and have sunken brown spots of previously unreachable skin patterning its surface.
The next step is to remove the brown spots, or eyes, of the pineapple which were mentioned above. To do this, wedge your round tipped knife into the edge of one of the spots and pluck it out with a slight twist and pull of your hand. Remove all the eyes on your pineapple in this way. Take your time with this step as a beginner, being careful not to mar the surface of the fruit, as it will affect the final appearance of the it. This can seem to be a very tedious process, but it is well worth the effort in the end. When this step is complete, the fruit should be totally yellow and have sunken spaces where the eyes once were.

Now that your pineapple is headless, skinless, and eye-free, it needs to be sliced. Place the pineapple on the cutting board and cut it in half length ways with your sharp knife. Then quarter it. Slice a quarter into one inch thick slices. Then dice those slices into bite sized pieces and transfer to the serving bowl. Repeat with the other three quarters. You can serve your pineapple as is, or add it to a fruit salad to lend a tropical flavor.

Now you know how to prepare this delicious and nutrient packed fruit. It is a process that practice improves greatly, so you will find yourself becoming much more adept at in a short time. You may eventually find that you prefer certain variations to the above methods, which is fine. Always be sure however, to remove the pineapple eyes, because some people are allergic to them. Experiment with different ways to use this delectable fruit. Try it in salads, ice-cream, smoothies and on pizza. Most importantly, enjoy!
